Text is a rich source material to adapt into data that you can visualize with textiles. One of the easiest approaches to look at occurrences or frequencies of different terms — or alternately, the presence or absence of terms across different texts.
To do this, you need a digital, searchable version of the text(s) you’re analyzing. Plain text (.txt) files are ideal. If you’re not comfortable writing code, you can use a tool like Voyant to explore the texts, search for terms and phrases and identify their frequency across the text(s). (See this Programming Historian tutorial on Voyant for tips on how to get started.)
Examples of woven data from text include Computers, Archives and Librarians in Star Trek and The Locked Loom 1: Gideon the Ninth.
