Future Text is a Rigid heddle loom weaving created as my own “final project” for one of the first humanities classes on AI at Stanford in fall 2023, by the same name. It was a way to vent my frustrations into a textile.
The weaving captures four main kinds of data: assigned readings, lecture slides, attendance, and assignment grades. The weaving ends with course evaluation data, final grades, and email discussions from after the quarter was over. It uses multiple forms of Class Data and Data from Text (simple counts of the total number of words).
The weaving uses color and quantity in various ways, and the weaving is organized chronologically. One area of the weaving leans heavily on texture. There is a detailed write-up in the associated zine for Future Text.
