A rigid heddle loom weaving in orange, black, and white

One of my early Rigid heddle loom projects took data from Tamsyn Muir’s Gideon the Ninth about the occurrences of the protagonists’ names and nicknames for one another (Data from Text). The warp was set up with a variable-dent reed, representing (somewhat abstractly) the frequency of the interaction between the protagonists — who are in close contact at the beginning and end of the novel, but spend much of the middle with limited interaction. The weft represents occurrences of different names and nicknames. The weaving uses color for the different nicknames, organization (occurrences over the temporal space of the novel), and quantity (one weft yarn per occurrence of the nickname.)

I have a detailed write-up of how I made the weaving including the data mapping and colors.
