Lab Day is an annual event of the Stanford Literary Lab featuring lightning talks, lunch, cake, and libations.
For Lab Day 2024, I kept track of a number of key words as they occurred in the presentations (stem stitch) and comments (chain stitch) for each lightning talk (Event Data). The colors representing each talk are based on the Clothes or slides of the presenter. Beads represent the number of uses of the key terms.
The first embroidery covers the morning up to lunch; the second starts with lunch and the colors of the foods, libations, and cake, using chain stitch because lunch is a time for discussion.
I used Machine Embroidery to create a metadata key in order to display the piece as part of the 2024 Data Visualization with Textiles Showcase, before giving it to the LitLab.

Fun fact: I did the hand embroidery for these pieces while creating the data that went into Hi! I Also Enjoy Gerunds - A Message From Your Saliva
