An embroidery hoop with pie charts embroidered in cross-stitch, and a second panel with metadata showing it represents rates of sexual harassment

Olivia Johnson’s Women’s Work is a hybrid digital/physical series that uses Cross-Stitch to render “standard” data visualizations (e.g. heat maps, radial charts, pie charts) relating to discrimination against women — particularly marginalized women — in the workplace. The cross-stitch pieces are overlaid with metadata in the online presentation of the series.

This series uses Civic Data, along with color, shape, size, and proportion to show the data.
