A long machine knit scarf with blocks of different colors

Lab Day is an annual event of the Stanford Literary Lab featuring lightning talks, lunch, cake, and libations. For Lab Day 2023, I kept track of the colors on people’s slides, as well as the colors of lunch (the long stretches of colors at the top of the scarf), an example of Event Data. In putting together the Machine Knitting project representing the day, I created a data ball that in the end felt like it overrepresented the lunchtime portion of the proceedings. While lunch took up the longest portion of the time (an attempt at using the property of proportion, based on time), it felt like it overwhelmed the rest of the data. I also dropped enough stitches in the actual knitting process that I ended up splitting the knitting into two pieces, and was generally dissatisfied. So I frogged the whole thing back to a data ball.
